An experienced chef, who has competed around the world with the Welsh National Culinary Team, has been appointed executive chef at Chester University.

Toby Beevers, 34, from Broughton, near Chester, takes up his new position on September 14 after spending the past nine months catering for the cast and crew of popular Channel 4 soap Holly Oaks.

Toby, who formerly worked as a pastry chef at The Chester Grosvenor and Spa, said he was delighted to secure the executive chef's post at his local university and was looking forward to the new challenge.

He is also helping his wife, Jo, with her new business, Kokonoir Chocolate, which was established in April. The business makes four different types of chocolate bars - white with raspberries, milk and vanilla with roasted cocoa and two dark, a 70 per cent and 53 per cent infused with orange oils.

The chocolate is sold through Hawarden Estates Farm Shop, close to where the Beevers family lives but there are plans to supply more outlets farther afield in the future as the business grows.

Toby, a member of the Welsh National Culinary Team for nine years, has won a string of gold medals at the World Culinary Championships, Welsh International Culinary Championships and other major catering events.
